The lands between were inhabited by dragons, and the numen (Marika's folk) lived elsewhere, not to mention the hornsent from the Shadow realm. The Erdtree is actually a completely foreign entity delivered to rhe lands between with the divine beast, and isnt a natural part of the ecosystem at all.

I believe the elden beast is the end tree. It's tail is "mimicking " a tree and taking on its role. Marika summoned it through the greater will and it's a faith equivalent to astel. It came from the void, where darkness hides potential and possibilities. Were astel is the stars and their matter. The beast channels the faith in Marika through the universe into golden light. Faith is golden because of the beast. It can heal, bless, or attack. As doubts sets in, through the death of Godwyn, Ranni set its downfall in motion. I believe the dlc map is the bottom view of the lands between. It has too many parallels to be nothing else then purposeful. But I think it's more likely that it's the dead version that would be at the center but is hidden by a veil, like the black knife assassins. And that's a consequence or how the rune of death was removed from the Elden Ring, and so the land of death was also. To stop it from being revealed she sent mesmer to burn it down and destroy it.

A few points I disagree with: I don't think the surcoats of those soldiers are meant to be radahn's colours, its more likely that the dark filter over the scene makes the orange of the tree-and-beast heraldry appear darker, it also makes the helm of the soldier appear red so its makes more sense that this is a scene of the first defense (the attack led by Godefroy), before the banishing of the eternal city district which would also mean its before it was revealed/discovered who the culprits of the Night of the Black Knives were. Godrick was probably hounded from the capital after Godefroy was captured and possibly ratted Godrick out as being in on the assault and/or possibly other conspiracies, we don't know. Radahn's assault on Leyndell is only depicted in the game's intro and sword monuments, where Morgott is forced to confront Radahn in the guise of Margit, probably getting the jump on him (literally), the general not yet grown to his fully monstrous size though still a very big individual similar in size to the royal omen. After that defeat he probably goes to Caelid to build up his forces and his own personal strength, probably channeling his great rune to grow quite literally in strength and power... I don't believe Radahn ever assaulted Stormveil, simply passed it by while Godrick hid within the walls, Radahn likely wouldn't even consider him worth the bother. The damage to Stormveil doesn't look like any other kind of magical or siege weapon damage we see anywhere else in the game, the thorn-filled sores and scars pockmarking the castle are far too organic looking and are more akin to some kind of curse or rot unique to the location, likely related to the hollow visage of godwyn in the depths.
